While studying for a Law degree at Bristol University Liz took her BHSAI exams and trained as a Dressage Judge. She also became a close friend of Sue Devereux and together they wrote The Veterinary Care of the Horse which was published by J A Allen. It was ground-breaking in its approach, making a complex subject easily understandable, and over 140,000 copies were sold. She was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust travelling fellowship in Veterinary Education. This enabled her to travel around Australia observing the equine industry and their approaches to training vets, farriers and the workforce – it was a significant learning experience.
It led her to study different approaches in the emerging world of sports psychology, and she wrote the best sellers Simple Steps to Riding Success and Ride with Confidence, both published by David & Charles. She achieved the BHS Intermediate Instructor and BHS Stable Manager qualifications, and competed in affiliated showjumping and dressage. With this breadth of experience she was invited to lecture at Writtle College, delivering a module for the BSc Equine Science degree for 5 years.
Her equestrian career has been in parallel to a successful career in marketing and communications, including working in the pharmaceutical industry and central government (Home Office, Defra). She has recently set up a sports horse stud in Hampshire and enjoys handling the youngstock and seeing her horses being professionally competed.
